Background & Objectives: Violence during training in educational centers is
considered as an important problem. The nursing students may be the victims of
violence during the clinical training. Regarding this, the present study aimed to
determine the level of violence during the internship in the nursing students.
Materials & Methods: This descriptive study was conducted on the nursing
students of Hazrat Zeynab Faculty, Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences,
Mazandaran, Iran, in 2015. The data were collected using a researcher-made
questionnaire with Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of 0.88%. The research population
corresponded to a group of 139 nursing students who were interns at the time of
the study. The data analysis was performed using the descriptive and inferential
statistics through the SPSS version 16 software.
Results: As the results of the present study indicated, the rate of violence
exposure during the internship was 64.9% among the participants. Out of this
value, 16.5%, 4.3%, and 1% of the cases were verbal, non-verbal, and physical
violence, respectively. This violence was exerted by the patients (23%), patient’s
family members (20.9%), nurses (7.9%), physicians (2.2%), hospital staff (0.7%),
teachers (4.3%), and other hospital personnel (6.7%).
Conclusion: The findings of the present study indicated a high prevalence of
violence against the nursing students during training. General education and
training of the nursing personnel in the field of violence is recommended to reduce
the violence against the nursing students.
